Boy Scout Troop 9Boy Scout Troop 9 has been an active part of Downers Grove, Illinois since 1996. The Troop was granted its charter from the Boy Scouts of America in December of 1996 and the First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove is our Chartering and Sponsoring Organization.
Troop 9 is a member of the Des Plaines Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which provides services to Boy Scout Troops in the near western suburbs. The Council is divided into three districts and Troop 9 is part of Tall Grass District which includes Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lemont, Westmont, and Willowbrook. Troop 9 participates in Council and District activities during the year.
Troop 9 follows the Boy Scout concepts of patrol method and outdoor experience. Patrols teach scouts about group interaction, teamwork and citizenship. Boy Scouting places significant emphasis on the outdoors and appreciation of nature. Camping skills are practiced in the Troop to allow a lifelong enjoyment of camping and nature. Troop 9 is “in the field” camping, hiking, biking, etc. at least once per month. We meet weekly at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove.

Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Many of the activities happen right in the den and pack. The most important are the weekly den meetings and the monthly pack meetings.
Apart from the fun and excitement of Cub Scout activities, the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout sign, handshake, motto, and salute all teach good citizenship and contribute to a boy's sense of belonging.
