The Bible is very specific about matters of stewardship.
In Psalm 24:1, we learn that “The earth is the Lord’s,
and everything that is in it.” In Matthew 6:33, it says, “Seek
first the Kingdom of God, and all these things (everything
we truly need) will be added to you.”
The 40 Days of Purpose campaign has helped us grasp the “stewardship
lesson” in deeper and broader ways than ever before.
We understand now that the great purposes of God involve us
but do not revolve around us: that we were planned for God’s
pleasure, formed for God’s family, created to become
like Christ, shaped for serving God, and made for a mission.
These lessons are directly related to issues of our stewardship
response to God. They have helped clarify the breadth and
depth of what it means to follow Jesus Christ as His disciple.
Our prayer, then is not if God wants us to use our time, talent
and treasures for His glory, but how. We give on the basis
of our love for Christ and our conviction to follow Him through
life. |
